African Scat (Scatophagus tetracanthus)
The African Scat is a beautiful Scatophagus, with a yellow base body color and 7 black vertical bars. It is rare to see this scat in the hobby, which I find confusing since it is also the only scat to thrive in freshwater as an adult.
There is also a red scat (scatophagus argus arromaculatus), a silver scat (scatophagus multifasciatus), and a spotted scat (Scatophagus argus argus), but Scatophagus tetracanthus (African Scat) is the largest of the Scatophagus, topping out at around 16".
Fish Keeping - Exotic Fresh Water Species
What I like about fish keeping fresh water species is that its like fresh water fishing. Example when I fish for salt water species my reels and rods and my hands have salty residue but when I fish fresh water lakes my gear and hands are clean and fresh no salty residue.lol

Fresh water species of fish amaze me and catches my interest more it seems to me the settings of the trees, mountains, etc... that surround lakes and rivers mystifies me like the Amazon river, Congo river, Himalayan river...etc to me the ocean just one big pool of salty water no settings.

How I got started in fish keeping
when I got started back in the day when I eight years old my parents brought me to Sears to buy my Toughskins and icee I was so amazed to check out there pets department and my pops bought me my first 10 gallon glass tank and I bought a bag of assorted gold fish (a.k.a. feeders)
when I twelve years old I worked for a pet store as a assistance I was too young to work so the owner was nice enough to give me $20 a week in store credit if I cleaned tanks and get fish and bagged them for customers it was such a cool job, also one of my perks was lunch at Mckie D's on the owner's dime.
as a teen I collected Oscars, Red devils, plecos, etc... then when I was an adult I got married had kids and put up a community tank of Angel fish, gourami, neons...etc for the family
then in my thirty's got that bug again I was introduced by a friend who got me into other exotic fresh water species such as datnoids, perches, etc... then I was introduced to a web site called Monsterfishkeepers and there the bottom of the barrel came off and my passion to collect different exotic and rare species grew.
This is my first blog and I will post more pictures of the fish I keep in the hobby..
